About FE Wharmby

In a varied life, FE Wharmby has been a carer for, successively, her disabled daughter, and then her daughter and her late husband (during his final illness). She has since travelled the world – Peru and China being particular highlights – and also taught in post-Apartheit South Africa. Her desire to make a difference, however small, to the world led her – in her 70s – to the Salvation Army, for which she raises funds whenever and however she can: any profits from Gilded Wagons are going to Salvationist causes.

Between fundraising and writing, Mrs Wharmby still finds time to work in a charity bookshop in her home town in Nottinghamshire.
